Hello everyone,
I am planning to change the oil and clean my etm this weekend.
Can you please tell me the precedure to remove it? I cleaned my 850's etm a few months ago but this one is in different location on my S70. Thanks in advance...

Hi
If it's a turbo you will need to remove inter-cooler air pipe which runs in front of the radiator. then remove the radiator fan ( easier than it sounds!) this will give you enough room to get to the ETM. get a mirror and a light so you can visually see the torx screws and and then (by feel ) remove them oh and of course remove the air inlet pipe to the ETM!
Pretty easy but get rid of the fan or it will take forever!

Removing just the fan will get you enough room. If it is a turbo you can't really remove the fan and the fan shroud together and then get the air inlet pipe from the intercooler back on. I had the most trouble with getting to the hose clamp on the intake snorkel tightened. Bad words were spoken.

Bad words and bleeding knuckles are the two signs of someone willing to do it themselves and not be ripped of by the stealer's!

On my 99 V70Xc (turbo), I was able to get the ETM out by disconnecting the air intake output from the intercooler to the plastic tube that connects to the throttle body. After that, I disconnected all the wires attached to the fan shroud as well as the screws that mount it to the fan assembly. I lifted the fan shroud up and out of the car while pushing the throttle intake tube back towards the engine to keep it out of the way. ONce the shroud was out I was able to remove the throttle intake tube from the throttle body. After that, there's 4 screws (torx) that hold the throttle body to the underside of the intake manifold. You can just feel for them, I used a wratchet with the torx bit to get those out.

Be careful!! Magnetti Marelli allowed multiple entrance points for fluid contamination on these ETMs. Read this thread and ONLY clean the throttle bore while the flap is horizontal. If you tip it over to make the flap vertical the cleaning fluid will leak past the o ring seals, run down the shaft and straight into the angle reading films. Take a look at this thread. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?t=52151
While I'm no expert I've managed to rebuild afew with Sacer sensors and get some going that were ready for the scrap heap.

Thank you very much, that is a great video, when cleaning the etm, do we just spray the cleaner or do we need to use a brush or something??

You'll be spending some elbow grease to clean the bore. A good used toothbrush cleans well. The one half at a time approach avoids getting the cleaner past the throttle flap shaft seals.
