car will not crank

I have a 1987 volvo 740 gle the car will not crank over.I replaced the battery and checked all the cables.I can jump start the car by using a wire from the battery to the solenoid need solution to my delema.I tried starting it in neutral also.No idiot lights when the car is running

Did you try it with the shifter in neutral (auto trans)? Do any of the idiot lights come on when the ignition is on?

yes i tried to start it in neutral but still nothing

You didn't answer one of the questions. Your edit says "No idiot lights when the car is running".

Do any of the idiot lights come on when the ignition is on?

The reason why I asked about whether the idiot lights were coming on when the ignition is on with the engine not running is this: On my 1988 Volvo 760 Turbo Wagon the wires running from the positive battery terminal to the ignition switch had broken off from the battery terminal. The result is everything is dead.
