I had a successful repair and saved a bundle.
Nice write up. Thank you.

The part numbers on the module are different and they don't cross over as a match in VADIS. I would say no.Mamouth 37 wrote:This part could it suit me???

The repair instructions were specific to the 1996 to 1998 850 and 70 series modules. I believe the module problems were largely taken care of on the later models like your car so the problem may lie elsewhere. If you do change the entire module you will need to get the replacement part "married" to the car via a software download.

Hi all!
Thanks to all those who shared their experience on this board, I went ahead and tried to fix the ABS module on my S70 2000.
After soldering and putting the piece back in place, the ABS, Check Engine and Brake lights didn't turn off. Moreover, the speedometer won't work.
I just realized on the original post that I was supposed to remove the fuse before unplugging the ABS module. Could that explain why it isn't working for me right now? I just removed the #4 fuse and put it right back in: 2 minutes after I heard a small motor work near the module (the keys where not in the contact and the car was working...).
Because my tryout wasn't successfull, I used the car for about 2 weeks (without the module). Then I received a used ABS module ordered from EBay and it didn't work neither. The part numbers were of course the right ones. It sounds like there is something else than the Module itself that is not working...
Please note that my ETS light is also ON, thought it went off for a couple of weeks after I cleaned the Throttle Body. Could the ETS affect the ABS module?
Thanks for your help!
Julien

Ignition should be off. I never removed fuses when doing this repair and I've had my units off 4 times in total on my 2000 V70 & '99 V70.
I think you are correct that something else is amiss here or just bad coincidence as far as 2 different ABS modules giving the same result.
The ETS light has not been linked to ABS failure in the past to my knowledge. If you're game and can follow directions I'd be happy to talk you through the ETM repair as I now repair these for the public but first get the car scanned and report all codes back.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, @OP
another super satisfied customer all the way from Nigeria thank you So So much for this excellent write up. My loyal 850 went into retard mode 2 months ago, and its been downhill ever since. i decided to take the DIY approach after a couple of rip offs by local mechanics, it would stall once the engine warms up and i slow at a traffic light, i changed the fuel pump, filter, spark plugs (3 times
), finally i narrowed it down to the MAF, iac valve (which i cleaned), thermostat and fuel pump relay, it was the relay that was responsible. Now i figured if i could do all that by myself why not have a go at the abs module, its been out for 3years, i shipped in a set of torx screwdrivers, couldn't get a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel, so i used a hot knife instead to slice through, re-soldered all the pins, reassembled and tested it, it worked! I could hardly control my excitement. the only thing left is the P0410 code secondary air injection, i would convert it to a VW pump or just replace with another unit
Thank you once again.

A big "thank you" to everyone who contributed to this topic. Some three weeks ago I successfully fixed the ABS module in my 1999 V70XC. I could never have done it without the valuable information on this forum! I am now starting to get used to the absence of the intermittent light show on my dash. Hope to be able to return the favour sometime soon! Thanks again.
Hi everybody,
I gave a friend my module to get it repaired, but unfortunately after installing it the ABS/TRACS lights don´t go out.
If I disconect the module´s two plugs, connect again and start the engine, the lights are off, but as soon as the car reaches 20 kph the lights turn on.
Next week I´ll take my 850 to the workshop, connect a scanner and check error codes. Is there any "bad module" error code?
Is a "classic" V70 T5 module compatible with my ´96 850? I´ve seen a V70 in a scrapyard, I think it´s a ´98.
Thanks a lot!

It sounds like the module is fine, it's finding a fault after the 2nd self-diagnostic.
1st self diagnostic is a continuity check.
2nd self diagnostic is a pump motor and wheel sensor check.
When you go to the shop, clear the ABS codes out of the unit then drive the car until the light comes back on. Read the codes again and chase the problem from there. Likely there is only going to be one code, and probably from one of the front sensors. I'd be willing to bet it isn't getting a solid reading, you can rule out continuity since it passed that initial stage.
"Control Module-Internal Fault" is the code for a "Bad" module. It won't come up for you though since it's finding a fault after moving, otherwise your light would always be on.

Very probably you´re right, I remember that before repairing the module the ABS/TRACS lights were on from the start. Now they are off and, when I reach 20 kph, turn on.
I have a pair of two used front wheel sensors. They´re easy to install, so I´ll test them tomorrow.
Rear sensors look rather more difficult to fit, doesn´t they?
Thanks!
