1996 Volvo 960 Transmission

Can anyone tell me if there were modifications made to the AW30-40 transmission used over the years, or are they all interchangeable?

I have a 96 960, and it is my understanding that the s90 is interchangeable with the 960. I got an extra transmission for my car when I bought it, and don't need it, want it?

Already got one, but thanks anyways! In case anyone was wondering: I was told by the guy I bought my transmission from that any 960 transmission will work as long as you get the torque converter with the transmission. He also said that an S/V90 transmssion wouldn't work - but I didn't see him check his computer (I saw him check for 960 interchangeability).
