The sway bar bushing are usually OK, but I would check the sway bar end links. The end links can be changed anytime all you ave to do is jack the car so both wheels are hanging and you can unbolt the end links and change them out.
The other things to check are the control arms/ball joints and the struts. If the struts have more than 75K or so on them, I would replace them anyway. You have to take the strut assembly apart anyway to change the spring seat. The control arm is also no biggy and can be done anytime.
Spring seat repair for $450 ?!

I also have a old Vw ( 74 superbeetle ) That I replaced the entire Strut front suspension. And I have a 89 Volvo 240dl that I bought a new strut mount for. Getting ready to do it myself. Just trying to get all the tools together. I can't afford to do it at a garage. Because I am getting ready to sell the car. Please let me know how it goes if you do it yourself. Thanks -Scott
