Exhaust Question (Loudness)

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Exhaust Question (Loudness)

Post by FlyingVolvo »

Hey all, long-time no post. Been busy with pilot school so I've been lurking mostly. Got a question about exhaust sound. A while back I had the resonator removed and a Magnaflow muffler put in place on the left side. Cat converter is still in. I actually really like the sounds it puts out. Not bad for a quick job at the muffler shop, but there is some loud droning on the highway. This leads me to a couple questions:

If I had the pipe after the cat split (Y) to go and add another muffler for the right side, would that increase, decrease, or not change the loudness?

Regardless of the solution above, what else could I do to tone down the volume a little? Would adding a glasspack or something post-cat but pre-mufflers make a difference?

Thank you exhaust experts!

Sorry, maybe this should be moved to the "Performance, Tuning & Aftermarket" forum. Moderator please?

I'm no exhaust expert but I would imagine with half the gas pressure alleviated from one of the pipes you should get a huge decrease in resonant sounds.

Two pipes at the rear will look great.
