This is my first post, and it is in a pretty old thread, but since the issue appears to have remained unresolved I think I might be able to help someone out by posting.
Two years ago I bought a 2003 V70 FWD (no turbo) and I was getting an intermittent CEL that would come on every 500 miles or so and stay lit for about 5 days, then go out. I took the car to the local Advance Auto to read the code, they reported two codes: P0106 (MAP sensor circuit error) and P2227 (something about the Baro circuit, but I couldn't find a separate baro sensor). I didn't ask if they could read the volvo specific code, so I don't know if that would have helped as I searched for a small vacuum leak. I checked all the hoses and fittings I could find, and I read here that it is never the MAP sensor that has actually failed in these non-turbo engines. So I ignored it for a year and I timed my inspection to be between CEL activity periods and I was fine with it. I did not notice any difference in fuel consumption when the light was on; fuel economy was always pretty good as far as I could tell (30mpg hwy, 18-20mpg city)
This year I tried to search again, and again came up empty handed. I had to cancel my inspection appt when the light came on the day before it, so I decided that I would even pay the dealer to figure it out when the vehicle was in for a 105k mile wallet lightening.
Apparently it was a dirty throttle body. I haven't put any miles on yet, but if anyone else out there is mystified by this code maybe try cleaning yours and see if it solves your problem. You just might save $165 (including the $30 charge to plug in the diagnostic reader; there is also some ECM upgrade that they did, I don't know if that garners a fraction of the charge).

I also have the same problem on a 2004 v70 non turbo. Have changed the MAP sensor and still get intermitent CEL. Seems to go after messing about with the wiring. CEL goes out after usual 3 or 4 startups. Have used electrical contact cleaner on connection. no change. This fault only seems to affect 2003/2004 non turbo cars. Interesting about cleaning the throttle body, has that cleared your fault I notice it was back in April when you had it done.

I'm happy to see this thread has revived. We just bought a 2004 v70 NA and the check engine light came on when I was only 80 miles down road from the dealer. It came back every time we cleared the code with the interval getting shorter until now only about 5 miles and its back on. Since reading about it, we've replaced the vacuum hose, cleaned the throttle body, took the map sensor out and checked the connections which were fine, but still dusted them off with a very fine piece of sand paper and then checked on the availability of map sensors. Only Volvo has one available at this time for 225. They say they will fix it for us if we come in pay them 106 for diagnoses plus the map sensor and labor. Any ideas on how to proceed? We have to solve this in 30 days because we need to get it inspected to get plates in our state. As an interesting aside, the Volvo parts man told me that there is no recovery code for the radio, should we disconnect the battery, but that the 04 v70s radio still had to be recovered by a method known only to Volvo mechanics (at 125 an hour) so would anyone else know this procedure?

I am having the same problems. After having the diagnostic tests done at a cost of £65, showed it was the fault code 140A which requires intake manifold pressure sensor replacing. The independant garage wanted £190 to change it. I bought one for £80 and chaqnged it myself about 10 min maximum, took longer to get the tools out. Fine for 2 weeks then light back on. Has been on and off several times since. Seems to go if I fiddle with the wiring harness but I can't find a problem. Have today cleaned the throttle body, will see what happens but I am not very optimistic. Someone must know what the answer is, it only seems to affect 2004 v70 non-turbo.

Its now over 2 months since I have had a CEL. I cleaned the throttle body with carb cleaner and also cleaned the electrical connections on the map sensor and the maf sensor. I also hovered out all the air filter box. Touch wood it seems to have done the job as no further CEL for 2 months.

I cleaned the air box, removed/cleaned the MAF sensor, and cleaned the throttle body. The cleaner I used suggested spraying the entire can into the throat, so that's what I did. I ran a toothbrush over the places I could reach to loosen up the gunk.
After putting it all back together & removing the codes, I'm happy to say, no more CEL. In the past, the light would come on within 24 hours.

Thank you tremendously to the responses above. Wife noticed 2004 Volvo S60 would hesitate when starting for a quick second and CEL light came on a couple days later. No problems driving at all. Went to Advance and had the same error codes as above (P0106 and P2227). I cleaned off the connections on the MAP sensor (probably a waste of 3 minutes), cleaned up the air filter, cleaned the MAF sensor with cleaner from Advance (about $7.00), and cleaned up the throttle intake with carb cleaner. To reset the CEL, I unplugged the ground connector on the battery and held it against the positive end for a couple seconds. Light is off and car is running perfectly.

above the radiator, and what do you know the hose was deteriorated and fell of. Never even noticed it was there. But what else I found was the vacuum ports on the manifold were plugged up with "goo" and not providing any suction. Both small ports were plugged. I cleaned out both and the car seems happier.
Might be worth checking.
