Re: VIDA 2012B VMWare Player Image
Thanks precopster, I'll keep trying file 5, all the rest came down OK. I have an antique pc I'll run this on. Maybe I'll spring for a whole vida setup if I end up with volvo number 2 & 3.

Rmmagow,% just stops after a couple of mins and says Temporary Error
IE has known behavioral issues and I don't like it (it needs too many workarounds in order to work
Chrome - maybe better (somewhat)...
Try putting the Firefox Browser on your ragged out machine, and then update it. Be sure to use the Mozilla site as the source for the initial d/l: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ (you do not want any other shady looking sites) and then update FF to the latest version.
The d/l of large files from MEGA like these will be much smoother and you will not regret having FF side by side with IE. No need to make FF the default browser either - it is that friendly.
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

Mozila worked for me. I'm running the 7zip thing now, probably take a couple of hours. Doe it combine all these into one huge vmdk file? I'm thinking to copy that to a stick and try it on a much faster computer.

It's not one file but a group of file images.
Mine keeps corrupting, first time during an unsuccessful shutdown and the 2nd time during running out of discspace it was installed to.
BTW I couldn't delete the uncompressed corrupted image files while VM Ware was installed to the computer no matter how many times I looked for running applications starting with "VM" using Task Manager
I eventually uninstalled VM Ware player so I could release the images to oblivion by deleting them.
I'm on my 3rd re-image and my 2nd install of VM Ware

Wow! That's a lot of labour (this is the Aussie spelling)
Why not consider running Malwarebytes (d/l at www-dot-malwarebytes-dot-org) besides the nice IDS/IPS and scan tools, it has a sweet File Assassin feature that will allow you to delete a locked file much easier (without having to re-image)
Be careful with Task Mgr - if you are running Win as admin - you don't want to kill a running process that may be vital to the OS - damage and file corruption prey just around the corner...

Thanks regent I'll give it a try.
That's what I need a file obliterator which takes on files that are being used.
This time I changed the network card's settings to a fixed (out of range) IP address so there is no connection to the 'net

Nice move!network card's settings to a fixed (out of range) IP address
I unplug the LAN cable and disable the radios (both WiFi and BT) before testing unknown stuff that does NOT have the need to network. I've already caught a few rascals that can very quietly invoke and modify the local network settings in background
It is best when you separate your 'sandbox' with a nice air gap

My VM Ware seems to have settled down now. The network card I was referring was the one in the virtual OS.
Now it can't do Windows update and I didn't bother with Anti-virus in the virtual OS either.....perhaps I should rethink the lack of anti virus.......

Finally got it stabilised and have installed antivirus and Windows Updates (all except genuine advantage notification)
There seems to be no quick way to transfer files b/w the 2 OSs other than by email or Team Viewer, unless someone knows of some workaround to this.
Edit: COPY AND PASTE WORKS BRILLIANTLY DER!!

Yep,COPY AND PASTE WORKS BRILLIANTLY...
CTRL+V/CTRL+C has been around for quite a few decades... since DOS maybe.
Remember those green all-in-one CPU/monitor/keyboard combos - I still keep one as a backup (the System has been slightly customized by Tech Support, as you can see)
