97' 850 T5 Sedan with 737K original miles!

Post by jpr0204 »

Good afternoon everyone,

The other day I was talking with Jblackburn and I was telling him how I was at my indy getting an alignment done on my 00' V70 X/C after front strut and coil spring seat replacement.

This is from our conversation...

"Believe it or not, I was at my Indy yesterday for the alignment after doing the struts and mounts and he had a 97' 850 T5 sedan in the bay.

When I walked in, he was just getting finished putting oil in it. He said to me "Nice car huh?"

I said "Yes, very nice with the spoiler and the glossy black paint."

He said "Reach in there and fire it up for me will ya?" I did just as he asked. It fired up immediately and sounded very well, (nice and quiet).

Then he said to me, "Now peek your head in there and look at the mileage."

I did, I couldn't believe my eyes! 727,000 yes, 727,000 miles!

He said the gentleman bought it new and has been bringing here for years and the only things we've ever done to it were normal wear N' tear items. He said the enegine has never been opened up other than for t-belts, water pumps, and seals and the trans.has never been touched except for drain and refills.

It made me proud to see a car in that pristine of condition with that mileage. It had it's fair shair of little dings and scratches but absolutely NO RUST!"

I made a mistake though, it was 737K miles! Here is a pic of the odometer, I was able to get one this morning when I was bringing parts to them...

I guess when you think about it though, 737K isn't that much compared to Mr. Irv Gordon's 3 million mile 66' P1800... :)

JPR, outstanding. Thanks for sharing this here.

As I was reading on my phone I couldn't see the photo you took. I was thinking as I was reading "OMG. This is incredible. If he had only snapped a photo!" And you did :-D

Interesting that (if the odo is true), then the owner drives some 45K miles/year for 16 years!

The owner of the shop said he does appox. 800 miles a week. I should've asked what he did so much driving for, but I just didn't think of it. I was to in awe :O from how the car runs with the mileage that's on it. All I can say is that with 104K on my clock, hopefully I still have a waaaaaaaaaays to go. LOL!

... and at 45 miles per hour, that odo equates to driving 19.704 hours per week - every week - for those 16 years!
