Idle is Low, and lf need to adjust the idle

Post by harleyvolvo »

I have a 1989 740....when my dad had it the idle seemed to high, but when I got it he turned the idle down...now the car is so low until it turns off.....so me being mr. Fix it I tried to increase the accelerator or increase the idle and I ended up messing up the connection to the gas pedal...it's too lose....how do I go about tightening it back up and increasing the idle so that the car doesn't turn off?????

The idle on the 740 with the Jetronic LH 2.4 is not adjustable. It is computer controlled.

Low idle is usually caused by a dirty throttle body, a thing that is always overlooked until it causes a problem.

I am curious as to how your dad did reduce the idle speed. One possibility is that he adjusted the throttle position screw (TPS).

Next curiosity point - what did you loosen to mess things up? Throttle cable or throttle link rod?

Bill.
