Oil sump (pan) o-rings job.....

What we found on the tube going into the filter housing. One jacked up o-ring.

It was the only seal that seemed bad but we replaced all that were included in the kit. It was a major job. Doing this was very good education as to the anatomy of this car. And education isn't cheap or easy! lol

do you have any pictures on this job. i am getting ready to remove the oil sump on my 2000 s80 and i am wondering if this is somthing i should attemp to do.

It by far was the most difficult job we have had to do on my volvo. But doing it once makes thinking about having to do it ever again...not that difficult. After jacking up the front end, the entire engine does have to be hoisted from the top. We used a come along and lifted it from the trusses in our garage. The eyelet on the right side of the motor was enough of a support to hold it. The entire subframe has to be dropped. Removing 4 main bolts and a few smaller ones to accomplish this. The oil sump shares a couple bolts with the transmission, but once you remove the 20 or so bolts it comes off fairly easy. There was a good thread in a different forum site. http://volvoforums.com/

One thing I'm curious about is how many bubbles on the dip stick is too many.

Currently I'll see about 5-10 very tiny ones.

My last car just sloshed oil into the pan and always had a fair amount of bubbles on the stick when running. So to me, the concept of perfectly bubble free oil is surprising.

I'll probably end up doing the job regardless as a preventative measure.

Any bubbles is too many. If you are having these issues you should stop and fix the issue. Oil with bubbles in it does a horrible job of lubricating. The work you do now will increase your longevity.

I haven't seem bubbly oil in my volvo. Make sure your sump pan in sealed good. you have to use the chemical gasket. Search bubbling oil in these forums for more info

This is what I needed to know. I have the parts, and I just need to make the time.

A better question is where does the dip stick measure the level? It must be a very secluded spot in order to be completely bubble free.

Seems like a very mixed outlook on how difficult it is to do. Seeing as some seem to believe many things are impossible without special tools or lots of work such as changing the siren module or the accessory belt, yet I've found them to be much easier than described, I'm hoping this is one of those repairs that goes that way.
