I just replaced the head gasket on a 2000 S70 that I paid scrap price for. The car ran great after that, beside an issue with a plugged oil pump screen that I have taken care of, but was losing a lot of oil from the cam cover seal. So I pulled it back of and resealed it with the sealant from the Volvo dealer; I originally used some stuff from Napa. Now my problem is that the car stalls when given to much throttle too fast and I'm getting codes P0106 and P1119. The stalling problem seems to mostly go away if I let it run for about 10 to 15 minutes. Since the car ran great before, I'm sure its something I have done, which leads me to believe I messed up the timing. This is probably a dumb question but would the timing being off cause these codes? I've spent more time trying to get the timing right than the rest of the job put together. I think I would be driving the car right now had it not been for the vvt on the intake cam.
Thanks for your time.

Did you remove the CVVT hub and sprocket from the camshaft? If not you just need to set the pre-load on the CVVT by cranking the engine 90 degrees past the timing mark clockwise and then bringing it back, counterclockwise to the marks. At that point remove the belt and re-align the sprocket on the CVVT hub to the timing mark as the belt goes back on.
The P0106 is a MAP sensor code. The P1119 is an intake air temp sensor code.
The map sensor and the intake air temperature sensors are on the pipe that leads to the ETM and they are in a common wiring harness. There is a good chance that they didn't get plugged back in.

Thanks for the reply Lee,
The hub was removed by the previous owner, so I reset the vvt with instructions I found online. I found two slightly different sets of instructions. The first one, which I used, stated that the center screw had to be torqued to 35nm and that the three bolts on the cam gear should end up in the center position. The second said 125 nm and that the bolts would be in the limit position. Anyway it seemed like the hub rotated on the cam after I removed it the second time(more than the usual play for the vvt), so I thought it would be best to reset it again. I'm not sure of which instructions to use.
Unfortunately, everything is plugged in. I think my timing is retarded which I'm sure could cause the map sensor to throw a code. I dont know about the intake air temp sensor though.
Thanks again

Here is the official procedure for dealing adjusting the CVVT.
It can be frustrating to get it set right the first time you do it. Fortunately or unfortunately, the first time is the last time for most of us.
