POWER button...I just transplant the "Cassette" microswitch over to POWER button using soldering gun.
Works great. Cassette always went the way of dinosaur.
Radio Shack bulbs work great, same brightness as Honda bulb. And RS bulbs are much cheaper ($2.10 for 2 bulbs).

Very clever on transplanting the cassette button, I like it!cn90 wrote:POWER button...I just transplant the "Cassette" microswitch over to POWER button using soldering gun.

Guys, the radio shack part number was posted on the first page, in 2006. And it is sprinkled all over the 8 pages of this topic. All these "me too" posts make the threads unreadable. Just like the "why did you post that??" posts.

I was told by a volvo dealer's parts department that these switches (like the fog light switch on my 2000 v70) use bulb volvo part number 9148906.gutnick wrote:Does anyone happen to know if there are any sources for replacement bulbs behind the switches on a V70 - the funny looking long white ones? The Volvo prices seem like such a ripoff.
I found them on ebay and other places for much cheaper than the volvo dealer. I paid 16 USD for 3 bulbs (including shipping), the dealer wanted 9 USD for 1 bulb.

Just put a short bulb in there. You won't be able to see any difference in the brightness. Also, short bulbs are cheap at Honda. The Honda part number is up in the previous posts somewhere.
2011 XC70 T6 - current
2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Q2 - Totaled in 2022. Not my fault.
2011 XC60 - sold
2000 V70XC - given to a friend, wish I still had it.

I found a link online that said that volvo part number 9148908 is the part to get for the SC-816 replacement bulbs: I bought 5 and got free shipping on ebay. I'll just replace all 5 at the same time and save myself the trouble as I'm sure the other two will burn out soon. I understand that these 9148908 bulbs do NOT come with the blue plastic covers so save these from your old bulbs.

the directions on MVS were perfect: unhooking the cover plate's middle tab on the right of the radio was next to impossible for me, I had to bend in the metal strut that the tab attaches to to give the tab clearance. The blue cable also fell out and was tricky to get back in. all the other tabs came off easily.
the previous bulbs I got online didn't work after all that (I won't give the part number as it was incorrect), but the radio's back in the car and works, so I'm hoping the new 9148908 bulbs I mentioned above will work properly when I pull it out to replace them for the second time.
thanks!
best regards,
P.

thanks, Instarx, for your comments!
these 9148908 bulbs were less than 1 USD each, so even cheaper than the honda dealer's equivalent!

why do you folks -esp Mathew the founder- even use these OEM decks, still? cd rom changers and all?
i still have mine packed in plastic somewhere, sealed since 1995. im now using a deck from crutchfield for $100 that offers 16 gig slot for SDHC card for mp3 music plus 16 -more- gig slot for USB on the front for either -more_ mp3 music files or for phone charging/interlink, plus bluetooth phone calling, plus it includes an extension arm for holding your phone. why would you stay the course for cdroms when you pop cards/sticks with mp3's? at will?
what am i missing? is there some secret boze/phillips tuning crystals in these OEM decks? could be, because i only gave my OEM a week before it was pulled. but i still have it.

Your deck was likely the lower end one, SC-715 or something like that. My deck sounds great. And I have a mp3 connection for it.
When I got this wagon about 2+ years ago, it had an after market unit in it that I pulled and sold on CL. It had a remote and all but didn't sound as good as this SC-816.
