98 V70 wagon rear window washer fluid question
98 V70 wagon rear window washer fluid question
Is there a separate reservoir for the rear window wiper? We haven't had washer fluid come out of the rear wiper for about 6-9 months. The washer fluid light occasionally flashes. I've filled the known reservoir and the front works fine, but nothing in the back. I remember having a wagon with a separate rear tank, but that may have been a Saab or Ford Escort. Thanks, Dave

this link says there's a different pump for front and back, but shared tank:

I'm not sure if they're discussing 850 or v70 models.
there is also this, which discusses a later model v70 with rear window washer issues:

Now that I think about it, I believe my car has this problem, too! ;-P
best regards,
P.

Similar thing happened to me. My front washers worked but no water for the back window. All it turned out to be was the rear hose had disconnected. If my memory is any good it was located near the water filler cap or very close to the front headlight. It easily comes off. Its a small black silicone hose. A zip tie sorted that one out.
thank you, Faheyk1981!Faheyk1981 wrote:Similar thing happened to me. My front washers worked but no water for the back window. All it turned out to be was the rear hose had disconnected. There is a check valve in that line somewhere near the actual nozzle on the tailgate. That can fail. It is a $2.00 part. Replacement can solve problems with no fluid to rear washer.

If you can hear the pump running when pressing the button for rear wash (ign on, engine off, bonnet/ hood open) but no fluid spraying out of the rear window pull up the floor in the rear of the vehicle to the right of the main access panel where you get to the spare wheel.
Under this side piece of floor is a join in the rear screen wash pipe that is nothing more than one pipe pushed inside the other.
This comes apart spraying the fluid in to the tailgate under floor area, pop the pipe back together and add a blob of silicon sealant across the joint to hold the pipes together - Mike

Great points all. My wife is down the beach with her sister and mom. When car comes back ill check those out. I sure hope its something simple and not the rear pump. I guess it could also be the switch on the stalk. I look forward to troubleshooting it.

On the 1999 V70 there are two separate pumps on the reservoir, one for front+headlights and one for rear screen. I have had a wiring issue with my rear wiper for a long time but its working now so I'm not touching it.
