1996 volvo 850 dash replacement

Hello you crazy Volvo fiends,

I just bought a 1996 850 and mechanically and body wise it is perfect. sadly the interior needs some work. the entire dash appears to have slid forward and appears to have broken lose from the Firewall? I can see 3 different places that it would appear to link up, i was wondering is there was a place that i could get a new dash from or if i need to look around some junk yards for the pieces. any help would be great. this car is gonna be my daily and after i fix the dash i will begin moving on to more fun projects.

Hey buddy,

You can find a good write up how to change evaporator on these cars which covers how to remove the whole dash assembly.

I tried to do fix mine too but when I removed the dash pad, i realized that all plastic became very brittle, can't really fix it, i don't know how bad is yours but you may want to strengthen the mounts. Volvo don't make new dashed for these models anymore therefore you will need to fix it up...

You might be able to fix it if you have all of the pieces. It is a common problem.

I had one broken mount on my V70, with all the pieces, so I used JB weld to tack it back together, and then JB reinforced the other three mounts.

Just had a buddy go through this, he used a product called Weld On, to rebuild the joints, 790 degree multi-purpose stuff.

almost got the dash out! just need to get the steering wheel off which will have to wait till tomorrow when i get the jack stands........ long tedious work ill tell you what

I kept the wheels on the ground when I did mine, be careful with hose Torx on the front side of the steering wheel.
