Need advice on uprating 850R?

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Need advice on uprating 850R?

Post by rd350dk »

Hey there.
I am going to update/uprate my 850R, 1996, aut.
Current set-up:
3” stainless DP
2½” exhaust
A Swedish chip.

What I expect to do:
JE pistons, 8,5:1
H-beam rods
S60R manifold
Heads ported, polished & new valves
89 mm. downpipe
3” stainless exhaust with Magnaflow cat. and silencer
Stock cams
Kinugawa TD05H-18G turbocharger with internal wastegate
??perhaps external wastegate & blowoff valve
625 cc. injectors and Nuke fuel rail
960 throttle body
2½” or 3” piping for air
Intercooler with 60 mm. wide element
Waterspray to cool intercooler, temp. controlled
Cold air intake/filter
Preferably an ARD tune, M4.4
M66 gearbox
TTV billet flywheel
SPEC stage 3+ clutch

I am hoping for 420-450 whp., is there something I have not been aware of, or something that could be better?
Thanks in advance, Jan

S60R manifold - Here in the States, we can use the 2.5 liter engine exhaust manifolds, they're the same as R manifolds. This was discovered by Brett Borders of Volvo Specialists here in Denver.

Air intake - After 5 years of running a cold air intake on my 850 T-5, I went back to the stock "snorkel" intake. I don't believe there is anything better than this simple factory plastic tube.

Waterspray to cool intercooler, temp. controlled - Water/methanol injection for Volvos

Get a wideband display to monitor your air/fuel mix.

Remember, bad tires or a vacuum leak can nullify your $10k worth of modifications. Buy good tires! Stage 0.

You'll need good brakes to stop that beast.

Thanks for your answers.
3" stainless exhaust is already in the planning as described.
I have furthermore:
EGT gauge
Wideband O2 gauge (AEM)
Air intake temp. gauge
3" MAF
I have also been thinking of the water/mathanol, as i already have a kit for another car, but i am afraid it will confuse the O2 sensor?
I have also bought drilled and slotted disc from MTEC (302 mm. in front), Mintex pads and Goodridge braided brake lines. I am furthermore looking into installing an electric vacuum pump for the brakes, in order to enhance the boosters "force".
Thanks, Jan
