YOu were able to take the dash out one of the doors...I'm wondering if one could also take it out the back tailgate also then? turn it the long way? maybe? no? yes?

You won't get it past the back seat if you do it that way. I took mine out of the passenger door with good clearance and with the help of the other (more delicate) hands in the household.

Would definitely recommend one helper on passenger end of dash, and removal out the driver door.

Here is a look at the Electronic Climate Control removed from the car, annotated.

Note the large pin which you need to wiggle free of the dash on driver side.

Hahaha, yeah, I would have attempted this except that, you know, my brother dumped a VR6 timing chain job in my lap... :)

Bravo, abscate! I love the documentation. I'm inspired!! I'm wondering though, how many hard lines should I replace prematurely... Did you replace Volvo 9171406? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... pe-9137406

These hard lines are pricey!

I replaced that one and also the drier to condenser return line due to corrosion

There are three fasteners that separate you from Nirvana on this job.

The two 6 mm hex screws that hold the hardline behind the right head light..you can see the mess I made when one of the captive fasteners broke

The hex holding the suction line into the compressor. This is the one I got to with the long extension

Once those three are out, all of the hard connections can be dealt with on the bench and not on the car. The drier connections are big , 27mm (1 1/16”)+ nuts which will be locked tight and there is no clearance on car to snarf these off.

Up top, you can heat and apply pure torque , all is good.

Separating the trombones from the hard lines is also easy out on the bench

Replacing the orfice tube in place looks doable with another high pain factor. Look at the clearance for the 19 and 22 mm open end, and you don’t get pure torque with these. Crows feet probably required, and careful wrenching, or get it on the bench and 15 seconds. Not sure how you are going to keep things clean there either

Hours of hard wrenching and knucklebusting turn into minutes
