MAP sensor advice

Post by 98v70xc »

HI,

I have a '98 v70XC. The other day I changed the ABS module and the air pump check valve. The replacements corrected the Check Engine Light and ABS/Tracks lights that were on, however about 25 minutes after the test drive the CEL came on again and this time is was a P0108 code for "MAP/Baro Circuit High Input".

I read this site and many others about the MAP sensor and am willing to replace it, but I am wondering since this code never came up before, is it a coincidence its on now with my changing the Air Flow Check Valve??

Does anyone have any advice/suggestions?

I know its not needed and I would be okay leaving it as-is, but I'm looking to sell the car and want to have it free of any issues before doing so.

Thanks
Marty

Double check any wiring/connectors you were anywhere near, but this sounds like coincidence to me. The ABS module is near th e firewall behind the battery, and the MAP sensor is way over on the right-hand fender, and not connected to the air pump check valve.

Try cleaning the MAP sensor before you buy a new one. If there's a bunch of crap in it, it might "legitimately" be reading an excessive pressure.

Kudos for not simply removing the CEL bulb before selling.

I had this same code about two months ago. I removed the sensor, cleaned the contact pins and checked the vent hole for dirt -- there was a little so I cleaned it off. I reinstalled the sensor and it has been working fine since then.

That's good. Out of curiosity, did you buy a new or used MAP sensor?

Where is the MAP sensor located? Is it easy to access?

Near the windshield washer fluid tank. Red/pink plug (this is for a 1998).

It's more of an atmospheric pressure sensor than a manifold pressure sensor.

Thank you jblacburn! It was a breeze to take apart and clean. Here's hoping the cleaning was enough.

Quick question. What it it's function? If it fails what can I expect to happen?
