740 ignition lock quick fix

Hello everyone,

Recently someone broke into my 1991 740 and destroyed the ignition lock cylinder. It looks like whoever did this stuck a flat head screw driver in and twisted it around. Anyway, now when I open the car door, its as if the key is already inserted(door open beeper goes off and the radio works). When I insert my key, it doesn't turn at all. Any suggestions for a quick and inexpensive fix? Thanks.

Replace ignition lock assembly? Not the lock cylinder, the whole assembly.

After looking through a few tutorials, replacing the whole assembly looks rather complicated. Are there any other options?

Without being able to turn the key the lock cylinder would need to be drilled. A better outcome may be to replace the assembly.
