Dashboard clunk--candidate for a quick fix?

Post by rocketman4321 »

I have the abrupt "twack" noise from the dash going over bumps, so it's probably the mount(s). When I push on it, there's play on the right side, but the driver's side seems secure. There's also a small crack in the middle top at the base of the windshield, but I don't care about that if it's cosmetic.

I've read a bunch of posts on this, and appreciate that full repair is best. However, is it possible that mine's only broken on the right? If so, does that make it a better candidate for one of the bolt-on ("ghetto") fixes? If so, what the current wisdom on which one's best? (My evaporator is fine--this'd be the only reason to remove the dash.)

Thanks!

The crack below the windshield is kinda bad because this is part of the dash subframe. This can cause noise going over bumps. Either try to tape it from above and stick tape or black paper in between the windshield and the dash subframe or replace the subframe which i didn't do mys3lf cuz my evap is still good
