2001 V70 T5 Simplest way to get to passenger blender

Post by DamoV70T5 »

Passenger side blows slightly warm when both dual temps are set to coldest (driver's side is fine).
With ignition on, engine off (so I can listen), and fan on lowest speed, adjusting each temp control to max and back leads to the same sounds under the dash which makes me think the motor control for each blender, if this is the correct term, is fine.

Now for the "Doh!" accompanied by dope-slap info. A couple of months ago I found a foam strip in the drivers side foot-well, maybe 1 cm square section, 5 or 6 inches long. I thought is was some junk dragged into the car by the kids or hound so I promptly threw it away. A little while after that, I noticed that a small section of the same stuff was stuck behind the directional control of one of the upper air vents. Believe it or not, I convinced myself that it was the same stuff that the kids had brought into the car, but that the AC recirc had pulled it into the vents. To this particular genius, this was a logical, reasonable, and possibly brilliant deduction!

So now I realize that my genius status has been revoked and that what I threw away was possibly the blender door seal?

My question. What is the simplest route to this blender. Through the center console or through the panels on the passenger side. If someone had a diagram of this system for this model year, that would be great.

Thanks,

Damo

Okay - so I went in through the console following the excellent instructions in this video.

Looks like the controllers for the climate control are inside the large black box behind the center console and this looks like it would required the whole dash to be removed to service / repair.

The foam I referred to earlier came from behind the radio.

Temp difference side to side for A/C can be low refrigerant. The evaporator will not be cold all the way across and the air is segregated not far past the evaporator to get the left right individual temp control.

Thanks. I should clarify, this issue is observed with the AC off. When both temp controls are set to lowest temp with AC off, I get ambient temperature air on the driver's side, but noticeably heated air on the passenger side.

Your genius medal is restored or figuring it out.

Looks like dash removal will still be cheaper than getting a new spouse who is hotter than you...hmmm, that one could go down hill quickly..

Thanks. Yep, the "hotter" spouse line went down well last night!

Okay, so I had another look at this today. This time, I removed the glove compartment. I can see three damper control motors, and can clearly identify the passenger temperature damper control based on hearing its activation and motion when I adjust the temp setting. It seems to be operating fine (at least in terms of the motor activation and movement). Is it possible that it just needs calibration (something I have seen mentioned for fixing these problems)? Is it possible to perform this calibration / reset at home?

Thanks in advance,

Damo
