Re: 2005 V70 camshaft timing

Post by volvojosh »

Hello,

I replaced the camshaft seal on my 1998 Volvo S70 non-turbo.

I replaced the camshaft seal on my Volvo but the timing on the cams is off now. I marked the gears with whiteout but it came off. There are no markings on the gears like I have seen on YouTube and other forums. Is there another way toline up the camshafts/gears and time the engine? Please help! Thanks :)

When I try to start the engine it just makes a cranking noise but doesn't start. I know for sure that when I removed the gear it turned one camshaft over.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Instead of looking for them with your eyes, take photos with Macro setting and zoom at different positions and lo and behold the timing marks will turn up when you view the photos!! In Summer glare they can be almost impossible to sight.

I used a magnifying glass and still couldn’t see any markings. It's in my garage under 2 shop lights.

Use a camera on Macro. It's not about magnification; it's the way the lens interprets surface texture.

My 2005 XC70 has a mark on crank, not tooth. Look for "Timing Belt Mark On Crank" in this MVS post.

Found the markings, reinstalled the belt, turned the crankshaft three times, and now it wont start. Any suggestions?

The engine turned fine by hand and didn't make any unusual noises. It sound the way it does when the MAF is removed, but I checked it and it was fine.
