97 850 02 Sensor Replacement

Post by McBudz »

Hello,

My name is Catie and i'm new the Volvo forum. I have a few questions that I can't seem to find an answer for. Before replacing my O2 sensor, my car would make a pumping sound in the back when power has been engaged. I know this is my fuel pump running, but after replacing the sensor i could no longer hear it running in the back. It now makes a soft humming sound in the front. Is this something I should be worried about? My 850 starts and runs just fine with no stalls and idles at a low rpm. There is no sent of fuel burning rich either. I have never replaced an O2 sensor till now and this is the first Volvo I have ever owned. I'm very curious to know why the sound had changed after replacement of my O2 sensor. Please help me!

Hello Catie, and welcome.

The humming in the front would usually be the ICV, or idle control valve while it is searching for position. It is a good thing.

Hi Catie & welcome to MVS!

O2 sensor replacement have nothing to do with fuel pump noise.I guess that was only coincidence.

But...you should know that the very noisy oem pump(in 95%)will fail soon. The noise is some kind of warning.

Could you have filled the tank after your O2 sensor work?

Persons with good hearing can hear the pump noise change as the fuel covers up the pump.
