2000 S70 door lock actuator

Post by edd821 »

Has anyone had this problem? when the temps are high (80+), my driver side door locks won't open with my remote. I'm guessing I need to replace the door lock actuators but why do they fail when it's hot. and not when it's cold out? I have a 2000 S70 GLT/SE.

Because they have a thermal resistor in them that gets old and fails to function.

You can do one of two things... 1. Replace the entire latch. 2. Take the latch apart, pull the motor out, open the motor, remove the thermal switch and install a jumper (piece of copper) in it's place.

I have done #2 to a few of our S70 latches and have had no issues since.

I'm going to sound stupid here but when you say latch, do you mean remove the door panel and open the actuator? is it easier to replace the thermal swithc with copper rather than replace the actuator?

The door latch is all inclusive. You have to take the door panel off to get to the latch assembly. Once you pull the latch assembly you will have to decide if you are going to take the assembly apart then remove the motor and take it apart. The motor is about the size of a 9V battery.

I understand - I've found the actuator online for $45 - I may just replace the entire actuator. I really appreciate your input.

Could there be 2 different manufacturers for these actuators? When I took my rear ones out, they had an all plastic housing that I was unable to open. The lid (also plastic) that would reveal the motor was tightly glued in. When I tried to pry it open, I started destroying it. There was no way to open it up.
