Hello,
If you saw my other tread about doing the fuel pump and not clearing SRS I figured out a few more things with Vida Dice. I have no issue with my rear tension sensors that will not clear in delivery. After educating myself a bit more I figured out that I can read current values and the sensors are green and all AOK.
But I simply cannot reset the SRS that I have reset in the past.
Anyone else had similar issues? See attached poll question.

Occasionally this does happen. It can often be cleared by adding some more faults. Unplugging the gang plug under driver's seat to get the SIPS bag code set is an easy one. Then try clearing after bringing up the new code.
If that doesn't work then an SRS module reload is the other option.

Jimmy, as always thanks for your help. My brain is a bit overloaded with all the research tonight so I'll ask for some hints on a few things...
So the goal is to trigger "other" SRS related concerns thus your "easy one" comment?
I've done some reading where Volvo tells people quite a lot that a new module is required (I see used options if we get that far) but at least another poster said that is usually bogus and to just have Volvo reinstall software or most likely upgrade it as most people are behind on such firmware. Is that your suggestion too?
I'm getting close...the gaps are getting filled in!

"Volvo" may mean a misinformed dealer. I haven't seen control units needing replacing that frequently.
I have seen SRS modules that wouldn't reset like yours and I have seen that module not reset the engine shutdown on airbag deployment function and car would not run after an accident. Both of these were isolated instances.

That is 100% software issue. Not even issue it's a feature.
SRS module have a counter. Every time a new code is registered or cleared the counter decrements.
When it reaches zero SRS module cannot be cleared using DiCE & VIDA.

If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer
So many question after a statement like that!doublebug wrote:That is 100% software issue. Not even issue it's a feature.

What is the threshold of the counter?
Is it for one sensor or cumulative? Is it over a given time period?
What is the theory of such a design?
And the solution is to reload software and thus reset the counter?
Or can this be set with some SRS "thing" at Volvo? As I seem to recall Vida talking about something for wreck rebuilds that tests sensor.
Jimmy, any comments to this? This is up your ally of experience.

I finally talked to the service manager at my Volvo dealer and here is what he said...
He's never heard of a counter before.
Yes even VD cannot reset some SRS. His experience is that when an SRS sensor is offline too long with the ignition in II or III he's seen codes that cannot reset and require a software reload...at a wonderful $150.00
Stay tuned for Jimmy57 idea of pulling another sensor (SIPS) and seeing if that "jolts" the system into submission.

By disconnecting the climate control; yes you heard that right you can trip another SRS code which I have done when working on my '01 XC 70 while replacing the climate panel.
If you simply unplug the climate panel without disconnecting the battery and then reconnect you'll need a Vida Dice reset for SRS.

Current cars VW Transporter 2.5TDI, 2010 XC90 D5 R Design
We, ll have jimmy idea a shot but no luck. Triggered the SIPS but it will not clear either.
Looks like a trip to the stealership is in order for a reflash of the SRS module. Stay tuned.

I know of no counter like that. Cars used in training for SRS course for techs get codes set 100's of times and keep clearing codes with no ill effects.
