1984 240 GL Manual Sunroof Won't Close Completely

Upon trying to close the sunroof, it stops short of closing by 2 inches, just as it starts to go over the black wind deflector. It is like the crank freezes at that point. I can't afford to replace the cables, if that is what it is. Is there anyway to just get it closed all the way so it won't leak. Whatever help you can offer is much appreciated. Thank you.
