1999 S70. . Air box hose question (w/PIC)

I recently have been searching for a vacuum leak, so i lifted the airbox off and sprayed my carb cleaner to check there. I noticed this hose came off when i took the air box, and now i am wondering if this WAS the cause for my vacuum leak.

Could this be a cause?

It wont fit back together tightly, so could i just wrap it up w/ some electrical tape?

That line is not under vacuum, the seal does not need to be tight. The corrugated hose channels hot air to the intake on cold startup. FYI electrical tape there would just melt and burn up, the exhaust manifold is under that metal shield and it gets very very hot.

Check the large flex hose that goes from your air filter box to the throttle body. It might look okay on top, but feel around underneath. I've had two perforate within a year. I was getting serious misfiring and the new hose cleared it up. Also, the line that hides under intake manifold near the front of the engine. The rubber elbow on those tend to get crispy and leak. The other end of it also.

Otherwise, why do you suspect a vacuum leak?

Haven't checked under the manifold yet. I have occasionally been hearing some air escaping when i accelerate. Mechanic told me i have one too. Its worse in the summer though, causes my car to stall and die, affects the ETM more.

Welcome to the club. I looked around for a full month to find my P0172 code vacuum leak, to no avail.
After listening to a hissing sound I narrowed it to a fuel injector. Pulled all the injectors and found 3 of them to have cracked or broken lower end seals. Replaced the lower hard spacers seals and the both rubber ring seals, (I purchased mine a NAPA) on al five injectors.

The code has not reappeared and everything has has improved. In fact, the car drives wonderfully once again. The leak was not in a vacuum line, but rather entraining air around the injector. Only a suggestion if you cannot find the leak at elbows or vacuum hoses. I have silicone vacuum hose so the chance for rubber fatigue is lower, none-the-less is checked all of them carefully. Using carb cleaner I, too, was not able to trace anything.

On the end of the fuel rail should be a blue plastic valve cap, take this off and you will find a schreider (speeling!) valve, depress the centre part to release the fuel pressure if you intend to pull the injectors off the fuel rail but to simply replace the O rings you have no real need to do this.

One vac hose often missed on the 99/00 N/A engines (which yours looks like and you mention an ETM) is on the passenger side (USA) of the air inlet manifold right on the end best seen from above, the hose exits from the centre of the air intake manifold "scroll" through an outlet port that can also blow out in the event of a backfire through the inlet, this small rubber hose is often perished/ failed and difficult to see, it is part of the PCV system its function is to draw PCV gases when at idle, if it has broken it will let unmetered air in to the intake and contribute to causing the P0172 code - Mike

Alright so i just replaced all 5 o-rings. None of them were torn or broken but they were pretty thin and easy to take off. I gave it a test spin, but didn't notice any dramatic difference... One thing i didn't do is check the lower end seals that dasapir mentioned.
Would i have to remove the injector from the rail to get to it?

And Mike, if you have a picture of the location of that hidden line, that would be great.
