First time poster, long time lurker. You've all been a great source for info on my 1998 V70 XC wagon, many thanks to you.
Having just picked up a second car that my wife has proclaimed as her preference (forgive her blasphemy), I've decided since the V70 XC is to be primarily mine that I want to explore updating the audio system, specifically the head unit. Having once had to take it out, though, to replace the bulbs (tutorial found here at MVS, thanks again), I'm curious as to what happens when I replace the head unit to the need to enter a code. I'm guessing since the factory head unit will be gone, so will the need to enter the code from then on when reconnecting the battery. Told you it was a dumb question, but I don't want to leave any unturned stones.
So, no factory head unit, no problem afterward having to enter a code, am I right?
If anyone has suggestions on a good double-din that doesn't look like a tarted-up laserlight show, I'm all ears. I'm hoping for expandability, rear iPod input and the option to connect either an old Kenwood Sirius receiver from my old car or a new one if need be somewhere down the line.
Dumb question, re: replacing SC-816

The security code is stored in the radio and is not in the ECU / computer of the car. The radios can be switched from car to car, but any radio swap will need the code for that radio.
If replacing with an aftermarket stereo then no code is needed. Depending on your car's configuration you may need an amp or to remove / bypass the amp.
