Volvo pistons have indent marks coinciding with the valve locations in the top anyway so it may still be difficult to tell if the pistons have any holes or cracks as a result of the interference with the valves when fully open. The endoscope may work to a degree but without compression the head will need to come off anyway.

Jason1102, I hope your mechanic now has the integrity to admit his mistakes and cooperates fully with you to ensure you are not out of pocket any more than what the job should have cost initially if done correctly.
The 3 weeks or so he mucked about trying to get the timing right was a worrying sign he was out of his depth.
Maybe he should have gotten onto the forums for advise?
All the best. Peter.

I've been following this thread and I don't really understand how a mechanic wouldn't first ask himself, "Hey, Is this an interference engine?" and also have the proper procedure for the job at least looked up before starting any work. I do some work here and there as a hobby and If I go anywhere near doing a timing job I make sure I know whether or not it is interference.

Good luck to you Jason.

When a mechanic says he does not know what to do it means he is either not telling the truth or he is telling the truth that he does not know how to fix cars. Timing belts are and should be a straight forward RR (Repair and Replace). The are too many part swappers and very few Technicians who can troubleshoot. In this case he may just be a complete RR guy without understanding the Combustion Cycles and each car he gets his hands on is his Training at a customers expense. Hopefully his time it won't be at yours. Don't get mad however just document every encounter with him as you may need to go to court with him.

Blessings,

BKM

Finally got my car back tonight. Wanted to thank everyone who offered me advice. Turns out the mechanic who had a garage (In his back yard) was never a mechanic for Volvo like he claimed, but a detailer for Volvo who watched the mechanics!!! Anyway, When he tried to start it, it turns over slowly like something is over tightened, but it does not make any funny sounds. So now I have a Beautiful Blue 2000 V70R sitting in my yard!!!

She certainly does look like a nice wagon. Great color too.
So what actually was the final outcome anyway?
What had to be done to get her running properly and how did you get it all resolved?
We are all very interested.

I didn't. I went on line and found a real Mechanic who only works on Volvos. I have set up an appointment and hope to speak with them next week.
