97 850R What is this mystery hole for?

This is a leftover hole, nothing goes there. It is in the top of every 95+ white block cam cover. It is sealed from underneath when the cam cover goes on, and won't leak oil.

The pre '95 cars had a vent pipe there that connected down the back side of the motor. I believe it connected to the EGR system.

Is the top of your cover really that clean? Why is that?

Just did the valve stem seals. Sprayed cam cover with aircraft paint remover then pressure washed...stripped off my cam position marks as well...duh!

Did you do the seals with the head on or off?
