2001 S40 2.0T Revs drop & stall @ low speeds

Post by t4orce »

Hi fellow members

I recently purchased a manual S40 2.0T and everyone who has driven this car in my family have stalled it at low speeds. It's a gentle stall in that it only happens at low speeds ie in traffic or car parking.

When the clutch is re-engaged, the revs dip to a point where the call "gently" stalls. In order to prevent this from happening, the clutch has to be engaged with a slight blip or riding of the throttle to keep the car running.

Stage 0 maintenance has all been done and the car pulls nicely with no issues. No codes.

I have a S40T4 manual as well and that one doesn't do what the 2.0T does.

Any ideas?

If the clutch is engaged without touching the throttle does it still stall or will the engine revs pick up again?

If stationary, the revs dip down but doesn't stall. It stalls when the car is moving slowly and clutch engaged. Perhaps it does it when there is slight load.

What rpm's does the tach show when car is idling in neutral?
Should be about 750-800rpms.
Your idle may be set a bit too low such that when the clutch is depressed the increased load on the engine allows the engine rpms to drop enough for it to stall.

Car is being serviced at the moment and the idle control valve was replaced but it still stalled on the mechanic. Suspect coil and wires but I'm doubtful... We shall see...
