yea i think if i recall there was a little oil leaking out the sending unit maybe not i dunno. But had another question. ever since i got the car it has had this ticking sound on startup till its warm then goes away. And the check engine light has been set of several times for the front knock sensor (so stupid for not fixing it while i was doing the pcv) and i keep resetting it, and it will last a good time till it goes off again usually goes of when the ticking gets real loud maybe from a cold start or something. But it hasnt been on in a few months. Anyways would this knock sensor cause the ticking?

Does it sound like it's coming from the top or bottom end when cold?

right near the fuel pressure regulator... on top of the engine? thats what u mean right? top or bottom of engine? I took the fuel injector metal cover of and used that on my ear and test several spots sounds like the tick coming right near the fpr.

Kinda funny - I recently heard a 94 turbo making a starved lifter noise when cold from that exact same area.

There were also knock sensor codes stored, but not sure if I did that when I left the TPS sensor unplugged - there were lots of codes.

so any ideas of what it may be yet? is it a matter of being the farthest or shortest away from engine or u no what i mean, i can't explain it. But would definatly like to try and figure this out if your willing to help.

Put a Lucas in the oil. problem solved. I've had 3 Volvos with bad lifter ticks fixed with the Lucas.

Some people hate the crap, but I put it in everything and it has never failed me.

bkm try the lucas? what exactly do i need certain weight or what? and you posted the thread of compression test. i already did this when i got the car. We all no lifter tick is either bad lifter or the orings or bad filter. What is lucas that it is so special gonna do to fix it? Is blocks the air from the leaking orings or what? i had this tick since i got the car, i think its the o rings but no since in tearing her down to take away a tick that doesn't bother nothing and goes away once wrong. i just wish there was a simple fix. sounds to me like the ones z31 did with lucas were probably just build up on them and this cleaned it off.

so how would you check the oil pressure to determine if its the oil pickup oring or just a bad lifter. And from my hearing it sounds like its just one lifter.

Where the oil sending unit would go. Eliminate the oil pressure for peace of mind and or try the 5W-40.

i doubt changing oils or filters will help i can try the wix i dont think ill change my mobil 1 tho. since it happens when it heats up its gotta be that pan lol. but why u picking rotella over mobil 1? thats what i use, and just about everyone else i see here. SO much work to keep this car going i love fixing it but hate the prices lol!

Not all motor oils are created equal and not all cars work well with Synthetic. Mobil 1 Synthetic has been off my list for over 15 years. Was my choice starting the mid 80 and I've been changing oil since the late 70's. Until two years ago I was OK with Fram although I have used Mann and other name brands.

Try this oil 5W-40 along with a WIX Oil filter. It's an inexpensive try since you've been dealing with this for 3 years. Had this in a 03 Odyssey for about 10K and it was still performing very well. Super quiet running all the time.

Trying the 5W-40 oil is what I am trying to suggest you try since you ask for any ideas you like to try. I posted this (below) in another Post yesterday. It takes you to a link that suggest what to try for lifter clack and had positive results as with my personal experience.

Was going to suggest the following in order:

1) Run a 5W-40 Dino - Oil too thin when warmed

2) Run Rotella T6 5W-40 if you must use Synthetic

3) An Oil Improver I've used for over a dozen years to quiet and clean at the same time

Fortunately this Forum's Moderator with 26,517 Post on Nov 20th 2007 suggested, tested, obtained and verified the results I have experienced so I don't have to elaborate on the great results I and other have had.

I used the oil improver along with some Chevron 10W-40 to clean the engine when I first acquired my 98 S70 T5 and am now using a 5W-40 CJ4 Dino motor oil. Purchased a Gallon of the Rotella T6 last year for the first time for an Odyssey at $13 a gallon not reading the label and discovered later it was a Synthetic. Super quite engine and after 10K miles it was still quiet but decide to change it anyways and went back to the Dino.

Hope the above will be helpful. Will try to make a Video of my quiet 245K T5 on a cold start with the 5W-40 CJ4 Dino in the near future. No more blue smoke after using the Dino for over 6 months even now in 30 degrees cold start after sitting for several days.
