Hello everyone,
I have been having a problem with my 96 850R, it doesn't start, changed the PNP switch but didn't solve the problem. When I turn the key the dash lights come on but no crank, I think the alarm system blocks the car start, i tried locking and unlocking the doors with the key and didn't work, not sure what else to check. Any help would be appreciated.

Is the red light on the dash flashing furiously when you turn the key?

I had something like this years ago on a 97 850. I ended up jumpering out something to "remove
the system"
The following link gets you some information on it.
I do not remember the exact thing I shorted out, but I believe it was in this alarm
control module shown on page 4 and 5 of the link.
Maybe someone else knows the exact thing to jumper across.
This should get you close. Sorry, do not remember the exact details.

The Anti-Theft / Alarm relay is a double relay located inside the car, mounted high on the firewall directly below the fuse box. The relay is number 210/211 and you need to remove the lower dash panel to get to it. The start inhibitor can be bypassed by removing the relay and installing a jumper wire between the socket positions associated with pins 50E and 50F on the 210 side of the relay.
Normally the hazard lights will be blinking when the alarm is tripped and the starter is inhibited. You might want to try using the service starter connection to try to start the car just to make sure the alarm is the problem. The service starter connection is typically a Red/Green wire with a terminal on the end of it that sticks out of the wiring harness near the left front strut. Hooking up + battery voltage to that terminal bypasses both the key and the alarm relay thus allowing the car to crank over if the PNP switch and the starter itself are both OK.

Does the pulling of relay 210/211 and using a jumper doing the same as replacing the relay with Volvo part # 3545333?Ozark Lee wrote:The Anti-Theft / Alarm relay is a double relay located inside the car, mounted high on the firewall directly below the fuse box. Exactly the same thing. The Volvo bypass relay is easier to plug in but all it has inside of it is a wire.vikingleader wrote:Does the pulling of relay 210/211 and using a jumper doing the same as replacing the relay with Volvo part # 3545333?
