2000 S70 Base Fuel Pressure Question

Post by thankswww »

Trying to track down what is causing my 2000 S70 to get 12-14mpg. Have replaced O2 sensors, fuel filter, all basic tune up items, vacuum hoses, etc etc.

Anyhow, when I turn the ignition to ACC, the fuel pressure (I am using a gauge tapped into the fuel rail) jumps to about 45. Almost immediately it starts to drop. It falls to around 30 within 3-4 minutes. Then down to 20psi within 6-7 minutes and continues to fall down to 10 psi within about 15 minutes. After sitting for an hour, I know there is little to no pressure remaining in the fuel system, as depressing the pin on the schraeder valve does nothing.

When the car is running, the fuel pressure stays pinned at 58-60psi.

As far as I know, the car should be maintaining at least SOME pressure when off, and the lack of pressure indicates a leak somewhere, possibly an injector, or hose. Am I right? Or could it be a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator?

As a side note, I got the fuel pressure gauge fitting stuck on the fuel rail and I am unable to remove it. Any trick to getting the fitting off? It just turns and turns. This car has been nothing but bad luck since day one, but I am determined to get it running properly.
