I am changing my front O2 sensor. Can I use an Universal one? Where do you recommend I purchase from.

all models available. i would go with either bosch or denso front (upstream). you are lucky, for turbo it's much less expensive.

We see multiple failures and issues with the universal sensor. I suggest a direct fit Bosch bought through the MVS Amazon link . Oxygen sensors should be changed in pairs. If you have an old rear sensor (not accurate) and a new front sensor (accurate) there can be a performance issue. Long gone are the day where only the front sensor is used to control air/fuel mixture. Bosch will tell you that after 100K miles the sensors are just not accurate anymore.

Just curious, the reason I'm changing the O2 sensor is because when I'm stopped I smell gasoline, mostly in the drivers side.
What's the difference between the front, back, upstream and downstream?
I will be changing the front one.

Smelling gas has nothing to do with your oxygen sensor. If you can smell gas you have a safety issue (gas leak)that must be addressed immediately as it is a fire hazard.

I too get poor mpg and noticed once a gas smell under hard acceleration. Haven't checked yet, but on list is the evap, leaking injectors and fuel pump hoses.

Little I know, would a failing oxy show up at CEL?
