Are you sure it's the same hose you're looking at?
That one, running back through the engine compartment, should go under the car to the EVAP canister in front of the passenger rear tire.
The PCV hose should kink and turn sideways under the intake manifold to the oil trap box. I imagine if they were connected elsewhere, you'd have at the minimum a P0455 code, possibly other EVAP codes, oil everywhere, and O2 sensor/MAF codes everywhere.

100% sure that the hose in picture #1 connects to #2. Traced it, wiggled it, etc., and it definitely goes there. My car always throws P0455 codes so I'm not sure about that. Not sure about oil everywhere either, but it may explain why the car is sometimes hard to crank, no? There's a whirring noise near the firewall when I first start up too, which started around the same time, and the car sounds a tad different (as I mentioned in the first post of this thread).
So yeah, those hoses need to be reattached. So the PCV hose needs to go under the intake manifold and connect to that nipple that's hard to get to on the passenger's side, right?

Hmm.
The small vacuum hose that follows along with that line goes to the intake manifold. The fat hose goes here:

Here is a post from you. The arrow on the left side of the picture is supposed to hook up where my picture #1 connects, right?
I can not figure out where my connection there goes. I tried to follow it with no luck.
Also, what is that black thing in the bottom middle? Looks a lot like the EVAP canister lol.

That's the oil trap box for the PCV system. The hose from the PTC area connects to the port in the front on top of the box.

The hose coming in from the upper portion of the picture looks like the one I'm referencing. If it's the one I'm thinking of - behind the intake manifold, a little nipple that sticks out with an elbow joint connected, pain in the ass to get to and sometimes it breaks and you have to put a sharpie lid on it lol - then that used to connect to where my picture #1 is connected.
Also, if I'm reading correctly from the thread I posted and what you've, I could be putting pressure back into my system if it's hooked up incorrectly and overall this is bad juju.

While we're attacking the problem:
Where should picture #2 (vacuum connection, top front of the car behind the radiator) connect? That was a bit of a mystery to me - what should be connecting there.

1. The coolant sensor is most likely the suspect. The sensor is at the bottom of the reservoir. Its not a hard fix, just buy a new sensor, or if you feel like rolling the dice I'm sure you can buy a used one from the junkyard for 1/5 of the price Volvo sells them at.
2. Sounds like you might need a valve job. Blue smoke in the morning means your valves are possibly leaking. It means the oil sitting on top of the valves are leaking into the cylinder when you car is sitting around at night. This is a slow drip which is why you don't see it happening during the day. The engine is most likely still burning oil, but in smaller qualities during the day which makes it impossible to see. PCV is most likely the problem.

Lets look at this from the side with some stuff out of the way. I believe you're tugging on the wrong hose because you can't see the other one and they run through the same area. Instead, that fat tube, along with the vacuum hose that goes along with it in the sleeve, tucks way up after leaving the intake hose, under the cylinder head, and goes around the corner. I think it's that black hose right under the throttle spring there (blue line).mindshadow wrote:While we're attacking the problem:

#2 connects to the EVAP system. It goes through a series of one-way valves to a solenoid valve on the radiator to the intake manifold (green line).

So looking at the picture, the green one going back should connect where my #1 picture is? Because that's where it's connecting, no doubt. I ran my fingers along the hose, wiggled it, etc, and it's definitely there.
