Just like the title says. I am getting my brothers 98 v70r and he said it has a issue with the key now springing back from start. Can anyone point me in the right direction for repair?
I think he said he put in a new ignition switch already.

I had a problem with my 850 that was very similar, it wouldnt spring back all the way, abs light would stay on, headlights wouldnt come on, etc. I bought an ignition switch on ebay and replaced it which fixed the problem for me. (Not the key cylinder, just the switch which is on the back side of the key cylinder, easy to replace.)

My brother seams to think the cylinder has the spring mechanism in it. I have never seen that in a car before and I have replaced a few ign switchs myself.

It's just the electrical part you'll need.
The general consensus is to blow a few
extra bucks on OEM. Check out Tasca:

I should have the car in two weeks, taxes permitting. Before I Buying a new switch, if I pulled the switch off and turn it with a screwdriver will it springback on its own?

The electrical portion of the ignition switch is on the left side of the steering column.
The spring mechanism that brings the key from position III (start) back to position II (engine running) is located inside the electrical portion of the ignition switch.
The tumbler (where you insert the key in) is similar to your house lock mechanism.
Not the same, but similar.

The key cylinder probably wont spring back on its own without the switch, at least mine didnt, you may have to use the key to allign the switch and cylinder when installing it.mrjacobrussell wrote:I should have the car in two weeks, taxes permitting. As others have said, you need to replace the electrical portion of your cylinder. The good news is that it's real easy to replace.
