How to remove dash on 99' Volvo S80
Hello all. I currently just purchased a 1999 Volvo S80. It was in a small fender bender so it deployed the passenger airbag, I was just curious how to remove the dash so I can replace it with another one and a new airbag. Also, where are the airbag sensors located at on the front bumper so I can fix the one that was shoved in so that way it doesn't deploy the new airbag. And if I replace the new airbag successfully will the SRS light turn off as well as clear out of the message center since the battery will be unhooked during the removal and reinstall of the old and new dash and airbag? Please help!

Dash removal requires removing cluster, center stack unit, and glove box. With those removed you will see bolts holding dash to the pipe that runs door to door. The you take off both dash end cover pieces and remove the bolts there holding dash to brackets on the same pipe.
There are other screws also.
There are no remote sensors on forward part of car on your 99.
The airbag code will have to be cleared with VIDA or other capable scan tool in order for light to go out.
With RH airbag deployed and no steering wheel airbag deployment you will have both front pretensioning seatbelts deployed. Those will have to be replaced to get airbag cleared and warning light out.

Can I just disconnect the battery for 30 mins to reset the computer and clear the codes? And by seatbelt deployment needing replaced I'm assuming you mean the seatbelts themselves have to be replaced?

I don't think the belts themselves need replaced.. But there is a cylinder and cable in the pillar that pretension the belt. It will need replaced for sure but I would imagine the belt itself is still ok.

Ok. And for the srs light and code in the message center, after replacing the air bag can I just disconnect the battery for 30 mins to reset it? Also, one thing I'm scared of, if I replace the airbag, will it re-deploy if I plug it in? The bumper was pushed in a bit in a bit, but I'm replacing the bumper and pulling the bar back out, what causes the airbag to deploy if there are no sensors on the front?

I'm pretty sure the codes remain even when you disconnect the battery for a while. I'm not sure if something else needs reset in order to prevent redeployment though.

Is there a way to unplug or turn off the message center and unplug the srs light or remove the bulb? Just so it will pass inspection till I can get it fixed properly?
