95 850GLT Haze on the Interior of the Windshield?

Post by viper69 »

I have a light haze on the interior of the windshield. It isn't from any cleaning as I haven't cleaned inside the car in a over a year; I don't use it often.

I need to remove the haze for night driving. It causes a glare that should be removed. What's the best way to remove this haze??

I have no idea what has caused this. I haven't used ANYTHING inside the car. The ONLY thing I can think of is over a short period of time maybe there was a residue coming for the shiny sun shield I bought at Target. But I don't that is the case.

I thought perhaps plasticizers from the dashboard, but generally when those chemicals break down the plastic gets very sticky, like on hand tools. That is not the case here, dash is perfectly smooth/non sticky like new.

One time I had haze on a Toyota due to someone who cleaned the car with god knows what. Someone suggested glass wax. THAT was a terrible idea it made the glare worse and took 2 years to wear off. So don't suggest glass wax please.

Thanks in advance.

The inside of the windows will get dirty just sitting. If it's a heavy film use rubbing alcohol on a microfiber or even some heavy paper towel. Otherwise just use some window cleaner.

I use Windex, but that likes to streak. You can use any window cleaner you like. I wet a paper towl with the cleaner, then spray the glass, and wipe half of the windshield. Then I take a clean CLOTH, not paper towel, and wipe off the cleaner and dirt. Then I move to the passenger side and do it again with a fresh paper towel.

Don't forget to wipe the rearview mirror and side windows. I clean the insides of the windows at least every 6 months, and I park in a garage.

Your plastic coated sun shield did it. It caused a very hot area between the glass and sun shade and tried to bake the exposed part of the dash.

Newspaper, the kind where the ink comes off all over your hand is the best. Use a clean cotton towel with water wet the windshield and then wipe dry with newspaper. Makes the glass almost transparent. Unfortunately many newspapers today are made with soy ink so those do not work well.

You can also use vinegar with warm water. Use just a small amount of laundry detergent with water to remove the film then vinegar with clean water as the rinse to finish. Use a large clean cotton bath towel that has no Softener of any kind from the rinse cycle or from the dryer.

If this film is a sudden thing you may have a heater core leak. Look under the drivers side carpet to see if there is coolant under there.

+1 on the heater core leak. If the film is greasy there's a good chance you have a heater core leak.

First use newspaper.
If that doesn't do the job buy some glass POLISH or glass wax
You apply it like a wax, let dry and rub off, the end result is amazing

I don't think so, I haven't used the heat in over a year. However, I will look into it.
