I'm getting a P0011 code on a 2006 S40 that I recently purchased at an auction. Its has 130Kmi on it.
I doubt the timing belt has been replaced. Specifically my code reader says P0011 Camshaft Position Sensor Intake Camshaft Position Timing _Over_Advanced. (Bank1)
Any ideas on trouble shooting this?
Thanks in advance :-)
Phillip

It is usually indicative of a problem with the CVVT valve, either electrical or mechanical, or a problem with the pre-load on the timing belt. Was the belt recently changed?

Thanks Lee, I'm still getting the P0011 engine code. Camshaft Position Sensor Intake Camshaft Position Timing_Over_Advanced (Bank1)
The engine seems to run fine.
When I clear the code it comes back within a mile and on the 2nd key start. The engine seems to run OK.
1. I checked the oil and the oil is full and clean with only 1000 miles on the oil.
2. I do not think the timing belt slipped because I found the timing marks on the top pulleys and they both line up perfectly with the notches in the timing belt cover.
3. I replaced the VVT Solenoid with a new Volvo VVT Solenoid
4. I checked the wiring to the VVT Solenoid and getting 13volts there to the new VVT Solenoid.
So am I correct in thinking that the camshaft position sensor it's self is the next thing to check clean, or replace?
The car has 130k miles on it I don't know when or if the belt was changed however there is still Volvo paint on the belt(I know I know that paint thing means nothing.)
Thanks
Phil

My 2000 V40 has the same Camshaft Position Sensor code come up too. forgot the # but also states 'advanced' ignition timing. Now the 'problem', I can't find it... There is a place for what I think is where it goes, two small bolt holes on the right side @ top. Mine just has a blank space there that looks like a 'freeze plug', but a little bigger. I actually changed on of these on a 2006 PT Cruiser, it's not a difficult job, if I can find it. Have a Haynes (useless) manual & original owners manual. Chilton doesn't make a manual for this year. So if anybody has any pics/images, please post them. I went to the junkyard & found a 5cyl T about '99-'00 & it had the Camshaft Position Sensor in the same place where mine should be!?!

Found it in the Hayne's manual, but it was referenced from another section, and mine is missing...
