98 V70XC Whats the black box under the engine

I was replacing the motor mounts today and spied with my eye a black box mounted under the Engine, Angle gear area,
Whats is this box?
Its missing 3 of the screws and with the snow I put it thru this year I know that box was plowing snow,
What is it and whats inside it?
BTW the mount on the pulley side of the engine fell into two parts once the bottom spacer was removed,
I bought the car with a good vibration which kept the price down,
Now its SMOOOOTH

I seem to recall a vibration dampener in that area. The thing that always made me mad was the plate behind the oil drain plug, it just spews oil everywhere so I just took it off and threw it away.

Is the black box the oil/coolant heat exchanger?

What you have there is a genuine pn 9480153 Oscillation Dampener. It is not mission critical.

If it runs smoother without it then leave it off but it is supposed to decrease vibrations if it is bolted on tight. It should be filled with a rubbery material.

Theres a big rubber disc on my 97 land rover discovery's front axle whish is supposed to do something as well.

Ill find screws to fill the 3 that werent there and be happy.

Just FYI, I removed mine in May, and haven't had any issues so far.
