2002 S60 2.4T Cranks but doesnt start

Post by gizmokip »

Was driving home one day car just lost power and died.

A friend of mine thought I was having the same problem as him and we removed/cleaned the throttle body and put it back on. Then we pulled codes and were getting both crankshaft and camshaft sensors, so I replaced those. Removed starter and had it tested. Car still wont start, then I replaced the spark plugs and also found one ignition coil bad, thinking this should not prevent if from starting I replaced it anyway, verified all coils and plugs produced spark at each cylinder. Fuses and relays are good. Still wont start. Fuel pump is pumping fuel, filter is not clogged. Car still wont start. Now im running out of ideas on what to do next.

Ive seen a lot of post on lots of websites of similar issues, yet following the troubleshooting of others and produced some results (a.i. finding the bad coil, verifying fuel flow) but nothing to help get this car started.

Anybody willing to visit this issue and provide some input? Been about 2 months this car has been out of commission now.

So the last two weeks I have been messing with the timing. Learned a lot about the way to do it fromother posts on the forum. The first time I reset the timing I felt pretty successful the car started and ran as long as I held the gas pedal down and then I let go to pedal and then it proMptly died. eventually I learned about the timing belt tensioner the tension was released and I learn how to set the tension. I suspect that the timing belt is jumping either on the crankshaft or on the water pump I'm not sure which but it does not jump on the camshafts. So after setting the tension and the camshaft along with top dead center on the number one cylinder I noticed that the marks on the crankshaft do not go to top dead center when I line them up with the engine block. I would like to know what causes that. So with the timing set as that without the crankshaft timing marks lined up but with the number one cylinder at TDC the engine started and then Idled and ran for about 3 seconds and then died

Problem solved. Found solution on another topic, timing gear crank pulley.
