1995 850 T5 manual swap clutch dilemma

Post by Frans562 »

Hey guys, I'm doing a manual swap for my car this summer and so last week I purchased a clutch kit from Tasca and what they gave me is the Sachs clutch, what I'm confused about is that I keep seeing clutches that are wider than the Sachs clutch online. I'm planning to make my car quicker in the future (tune, 16t, downpipe etc.. nothing too crazy) Is it better for me to get the wider clutch or should I just stick with the Sachs clutch? Will it be able to handle my future mods? thanks :)

I noticed that the surface are on my replacement Sachs clutch was smaller than the original as is the case with yours. My old clutch had around 235k on it and it was pretty much done and the replacement has worked flawlessly but then again it is in a non turbo.

In most cases I would say it is a no brainer to put in the new clutch but your old clutch looks remarkably good. Do you have a way to measure the depth to the rivets on the old and new clutches? That number would help with making the choice.

thanks for the reply! the picture isn't mine, I saw it online and I used it to show what I was talking about, my car is still auto and I'm planning to do a manual swap this summer but I'm confused about the clutches... I'm wondering if the clutch I got was meant for turbo models, I'm afraid that it might not handle the power and start slipping, though people call it the "R clutch" and gave the part number for Tasca in the forums.

I'm in the same boat as you.

I was looking at this kit -> http://www.volvopartswebstore.com/produ ... 72218.html

Apparently its for the B5234T4 engine which is the engine used in the 850R (if my research is correct).

I read somewhere in the forums that FCP sells the wider clutch and will fit on 850s, I returned the clutch that I purchased from tasca and I'm gonna give FCP a call for clarification on the wider clutch

I found out the part number for the wider clutch! Sachs K70212-01 I guess its an aftermarket part, I've looked around and called a few places and they said that they don't carry it cause it might be an aftermarket part.
