I have a 1996 960 sedan. 123K miles.
The indicator lights on the buttons for Winter/Wet and Economy drive modes are flashing back and forth, consistently, nonstop.
On the dash, the Winter/Wet indicator light (up arrow) is on, constantly (NOT flashing).
Does anyone have any idea what this means? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Hal in Dallas

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
I had this on my 1991 960. Gave me quite a start as I found out that the ECU had decided to go into 'limp home' mode. I read the fault code and then erased it. I kept the car another three years, it never came back and the car ran like a dream. My tame Volvo technician could not explain the cause but said he had seen it before and, in his experience, it usually only happened once in the life of the car.
On yours it will be OBD11 so I suggest you go to Autozone, or somewhere similar, have the codes read and, if they will, have it erased. Then see what happens.
Bill.

I can't remember what the code was but clearing it switched off all the lights that should not have been there and I had no recurrence of that problem. I had several others but only of a service nature.
When I told my friendly Volvo technician he checked the gearbox and said it was sound. We put it down to gremlins. Hope yours is the same, but still get the codes read and see what comes up.
