Ok, time to replace the evap pump. As I understand it is under the RH rear wheel arch area near the fuel pump. I have read a thread that says you have to drop the muffler assembly from behind the cat, and then remove a bunch of stuff to access the pump to replace?
Has anyone found a way to replace this pump without removing the muffler system?
One person thought it was possible to access from behind the rear seat to replace, but not sure on that.
Thanks,
Neil.

I'm amazed that no-one seems to have replaced this before, when I'm led to believe it is one of several 'common' faults in the P2's.
I spoke to the service foreman at the dealer, and he says they only loosen the mounting rubbers and the cross mounting in the middle of the car, and you can drop the muffler system sufficiently to not have to disconnect at the cat.
I'll have a go once the part arrives hopefully later this week.

You might be the first on a P2, but I'll try a search in this Forum.

The LEAK DETECTION PUMP is a very common failure on P2s

It is above the rear suspension crossmember to the right of center on most. I have not dropped suspension crossmember to change but a few times I thought it might have been easier.

I have the Vida info for the job, and it appears to be straight forward, but I will be on my back on the ground doing this.
It appears to be:
1) Undo the 2 bolts on the center support under the car for the muffler and remove it.
2) Remove the LH rear wheel
3) Remove the mounting rubber rings to the rear, and carefully lower the rear of the muffler without straining it, then support it (Vida says to disconnect muffler at rear of the Cat).
4) Drill out 3 pop-rivets, remove a few plastic nuts holding the heat-shield above the rearmost muffler, and remove it.
5) The pump should now be accessible to remove and replace keeping all clean.
6) Re-fitting is the reverse, and pop-rivet the heat-shield back in, etc, etc.
From what you hint at Jimmy, this is not the whole story by the sounds of it! Please enlighten me!!
What else do I need to know?
Abscate, I will take photos and do a write up as requested.
Thanks guys!
Neil.

The crimp to tighten clamps are not your friend. Those will be a struggle. I think XC70 is one of the easier ones. You may be able to bend the heat shield and get room to work without removing it.

Thanks again Jimmy. I will look out for your thoughts on the heat-shield.
On the clamps, are they the Oetiker type clamps? If they are, I have dealt with them many times before, but I think the new pump lists a work type clamp now. Can't remember the part description, but appreciate the heads up.
