97 850 T5 Starting and idleing

Post by wreid333 »

Recently replaced the motor. Had a hard time getting it to run. I replaced the crankshaft speed sensor and coolant temp sensor with new parts, and replaced the camshaft position sensor and IAC with used parts. The engine runs smooth and has plenty of power. The problem is starting. I must try to start it three times before it will run, whether cold or at operating temp. Also, when at operating temp, the idle will climb to almost 2000 RPM in neutral or park. I can rev the engine and the idle will return to normal then start to climb again. There are no CELs.

Check the fuel pressure with the key in position II at the fuel rail Schrader valve. It seems like you may have low pressure. It could be as simple as an old fuel filter, or as much as a pump or relay.

You had mentioned it being a new/replaced engine, so you also might check for an accidentally kinked fuel line, possibly bent during installation.

On starting, it does seem that it has lost its prime. I'll check the fuel pressure.
