1995 850 base No cruise control

Post by blackb23 »

Hi all, Im new here, hope I am doing everything right in asking a question.
About a month ago I bought my first Volvo, a 1995 850 base.
Searching around, through this site and Wikipedia, I am under the impression that my car should have cruise control. Anyone have any idea why it wouldn't?
Just for clarification, the car is a 1995 850 base, Canadian spec car.

I've never seen one without cruise. Do you have cruise switches on the turn signal stalk?

Well at least there are ten, or so vacuum lines you don't have to worry about.
Not to mention the silly little pump mounted directly under your battery tray.

They are fun to use though, when they work. Sorry, in your case, if you don't have it. I also thought all 850s had cruise.

There was a big political campaign against cruise in Canada back in the day....

My guess is that at least all of the wiring is there so it wouldn't be all that tough to get the parts from a salvage yard and add it. If this was a country specific deletion it may in fact all be there except the stalk to activate it.

Look under the battery tray for the pump or a three pin plug that goes into the pump. Following the previous posts you should be able to install the components to give your car cruise.

Just an FYI I had a 95 850 GLE with no cruise and it was a Canadian car, my buddy's 96 850 base doesn't have either (leather but no cruise. It's weird) so they definitely do exist
If I paid attention to signs with little symbols I’d never find anywhere to park.

That sounds like mine, 95 850 and has a GLE badge on the back. Kind of sucks but I plan on upgrading to either a s70 t5 or a s60R in the future. bought this car out of the blue when I was fed up paying so much $ for gas driving a v8 pickup.
