2007 XC70 Transmission flush

Post by raquette »

Does the 2007 tranny flush include this sequence:

1. removing the upper trans line to the radiator
2. insert a plastic hose inside of the radiator to a plastic jug that has premeasured marked lines showing volume
3. remove the drain plug and drain out 3-4 quarts that includes the oil in the upper line connected to the radiator
4. install the 3-4 quarts that came out of drain plug
5. clean off and reinstall drain plug
5.pump out 2 quarts and replace 2 quarts starting and stopping the motor until the fluid is bright red coming out of the hose
6.reattach upper transmission line to radiator
7. check transmission dipstick and top off level as necessary

last what oil is to used in the transmission

Great site, thanks All !

Mobil 3309
Toyota Type IV

are the only fluids to use.

Volvo fluid is Mobil 3309 but costs 2-3 times what you should pay because of the label.
You're buying fluid not a label!
Easiest is to go to a Toyota dealer and buy theirs, it's the same stuff, Mobil 3309

JRL, can you proof that Mobil 3309 is Volvo OE?

Can I proof?
Do you mean can I prove it?
I don't have to prove anything, it is.
Do whatever you want and then watch your tranny go BOOM a bit down the line!
Use other fluids at your own risk.

This has been discussed ad nauseum do some searching.

Seriously, who the heck are you to ask someone to prove it?
These cars (and this transmission) have been out for nearly 15 friggin years, everything is known about them

I did. OE and Mobil 3309 have different viscosity. A bit strange for "the same" fluid, hah?

Quick search documents that Mobil technical assistance has confirmed that their 3309 is made for both Volvo and Toyota T-IV. If you think that is wrong please post your evidence for discussion.

Other sites reference to different type of Mobil 3309:

I'm not sure which one is a mistake, but in both cases even density is different from what Volvo states.

Volvo is and they do this a lot, from misinformation, to incorrect owner's manuals.
Mobil has already confirmed (YEARS AGO) they make Volvo labeled 3309 fluid, the Toyota labeled Type IV and so forth.

I sincerely doubt the reported viscosity or density reported to 4-5 significant figures is reliable enough to draw any conclusion other than this document has been corrupted by Marketing.
