1998 v70 GLT Code P0413 - Check Valve? Air Pump?

Post by Seaway »

I am getting code P0413 on my OBD II scanner and after searching endlessly, I don't know what I am supposed to replace? The air pump itself (seems as though that is code p0410), the air pump control valve or the air pump check valve (black and white check valve). Does anyone have any ideas? I am willing to replace all three if needed, but I can't seem to find an answer. I am in Virginia, and will need to have the cars emissions tested, so the SAS delete does not appear to be an option.

I read that post in my search. I will see if the pump is running and if so, I will check the connections and work from there. Coming from a Mercedes background, I am still learning the ins and outs of these cars.

Thanks.

Thanks for the welcome. I will start a thread about MB diy vs Volvo tomorrow when I have a chance.

I am hopeful that I can get this issue with the air pump resolved soon as I need to have the car inspected by the end of the month. Other than this hopefully small issue it is a wonderful car. 215,000 miles and runs and drives great. The exterior has some bumps and bruises but the engine is in great shape with many new parts and all of the standard stuff up to date. Doesn't leak a drop of oil (unlike the three Mercedes I have had). The only code I am getting is the P0413 when I hook it up to the code reader. My inclination is to replace the parts associated with the air pump and move on from there as I will then at least have baseline.

Thus far I have just done the air filter, oil change, spark plug, cabin air filter and the resistor for the AC blower motor. Plug wires and distributor cap are next on the list. I will say that it feels more solid than the Mercedes I have had, but none were newer than a 1988. I have had a 1982 DL Sedan and a 1987 GL wagon and I am glad to be back in a Volvo.

Replied to something similar earlier this week - this post might help check the circuit.

The main fuse compartment at the windshield cowl has a few Torx screws around the edges - the cover will come off to reveal some relays. The air pump relay is the one closest to the front of the car if I recall correctly.
