Does it come with a new B4 servo band? If not you may want to look at a good used B4 band or another kit on eBay that has this item.

Have a look at the friction material on the band. What is the thickness?

Here's a little update. I replaced all orings/seals and the broken parts and frictions. Even though most of the frictions looked to be ok I decided to replace them with new ones. There is no way i'm opening up this transmission again. This project is fun and I have learned a lot during doing it but I totally understand why this is a 3K job, I wouldnt do it for a penny less. Left to do is assemble it all.

Wish you success!

I bet there is much to learn by rebuilding a transmisson, but sometimes ignorance is bliss ;)

Slow progress but I'm getting there. Was just about to put everything together the other day when I found a bearing that was left over... Turned out to be a bearing for the "front differential transfer gear assembly" which basically meant I had to take everything a part again. Note to self: do not put everything in a singe pile of parts next time.

Guess you're getting to know this transmission very well!!

Is that B4 servo band servicable?

How did you go with the valve body which is the trickiest part of the rebuild?

I'm not sure if the band is serviceable like u say. Bet there might be a shop that will glue new friction material on it but I dont know how that would compare to buying a new one price wise. My band looked fine so I'm recycling it.
About the valve body, I talked to a friend of mine that has done quite a few of these transmissions and he gave me the advise to just fix the three solenoids and leave the body alone. According to him they rarely fail. So thats what I'm gonna do. If it acts up again its not that big of a deal to remove the valve body if that would be the case.

Don't underestimate yourself. If you've taken on the transmission the VB is just putting icing on the cake. Cross talk between channels due to old gaskets would be likely at your mileage.

I asked about the VB because I've put Transgo kits through 3 of them with success so if you want to tackle it I posted a video here on MVS.

The Transgo kit has some modified parts that assist harsh engagement and help with TC lockup. On the S60 AWD I did with only 80k miles the result was spectacular and the new owner is still wrapped 6 months later. Most of that car's problem was the solenoids.

I devised an 85mm mark on a pushrod to measure band actuation distance which should be less than 5-6mm. You place the pushrod through the B4 solenoid's hole and press inward to measure.

In your case perhaps as you said just do solenoids but if result is less than perfect then tackle the VB as well.

Have you watched any of Hirram Gutierrez' videos on You Tube? He's done afew AW55s and.it may help you to spot things you may have missed. He says on almost all high mileage AW55s there's a bushing that requires replacement in the casing and he shows the wear marks and location.

Oh, and I bought myself a present today. My better half says it's noisy but I am so glad I don't have to go anywhere to borrow air :D
